Caracas, Dhu-AlQa'dah 17, 1436, September 01, 2015, SPA -- A fire on Monday at a northern Venezuelan prison left 16 dead and 17 people injured, Venezuelan media reported, citing the Fire Department and rescue teams, according to dpa. The fire at Tocuyito prison in the state of Carabobo, which started in the early hours of Monday, was apparently caused by an electrical short-circuit, the Globovision news TV channel reported. There was no immediate official confirmation. Preliminary reports said that eight women who had permission to spend the night under a family visit programme were among the dead. Tocuyito prison was built to hold about 900 inmates and currently holds more than 3,000, according to figures issued by nongovernmental organizations. --SPA 00:58 LOCAL TIME 21:58 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
