CHICAGO, Rabi'II 07, 1436, January 27, 2015, SPA -- The U.S. government said Monday that a California turkey farm has been quarantined after confirmation of the first case of an outbreak of the H5N8 avian influenza strain in the Pacific Northwest and in a commercial flock. Foster Farms said in a statement that it had informed the Department of Agriculture (USDA) after detecting the strain on a single turkey ranch in Stanislaus County following routine testing. According to the USDA, state and federal labs confirmed the findings from samples submitted by Foster Farms, which had experienced a spike in bird deaths. The agency said that H5N8 did not pose a health risk to the public, and birds from the involved flock would not enter the food system. --SPA 11:25 LOCAL TIME 08:25 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
