Johannesburg, Rabi'I 22, 1436, Jan 13, 2015, SPA -- More than 11,000 Nigerians have fled into neighboring Chad following attacks by the radical group Boko Haram earlier this month, the United Nations refugee agency said Tuesday. The Nigerians fled after Boko Haram launched a string of attacks in Baga in north-eastern Borno state on January 3. The Nigerian government has downplayed reports of a death toll amounting to about 2,000 people and said no more than 150 people were killed, dpa reported. About 60 percent of the 11,320 refugees who fled into Chad were women and girls, 40 percent were men, and 84 were unaccompanied children, UNHCR representative William Spindler was quoted by the UN Office in Geneva as saying. --SPA 21:55 LOCAL TIME 18:55 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
