SAO PAULO, Rabi'I 18, 1436, Jan 9, 2015, SPA -- A Brazilian federal watchdog agency says that most of the 550 public servants dismissed last year were fired for corruption, AP reported. The Comptroller General's office says on its website that 365 civil servants were fired in 2014 largely because of their "proven acts related to corruption." It was the highest number of dismissals of public servants in 12 years. The government in 2013 fired 528 public servants while 506 were dismissed in 2012. Valdir Simao, head of the Comptroller General's office, promised to be "implacable" against public employees who break the law. Details of the corruption that prompted the dismissals were not immediately available. -- SPA 22:21 LOCAL TIME 19:21 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
