Berlin, Muharram 27, 1436, Nov 20, 2014, SPA -- The Green Climate Fund, a project to help developing nations with the costs of reducing their climate-damaging emissions, has won 9.3 billion dollars in funding, dpa cited the United Nations as saying on Thursday, following a pledging conference in Berlin. The final total fell short of the 10-billion-dollar target, but the fund is viable to start its work next year, German officials said. It will be launched at a world climate summit in Lima, Peru. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon welcomed the pledges noting that they will "go far to kick-start" the fund's work, a spokeswoman for Ban said in New York. -- SPA 20:51 LOCAL TIME 17:51 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
