Manila, Muharram 19, 1436, November 12, 2014, SPA -- More than 130 Filipino peacekeepers from Liberia returned home on Wednesday and were whisked to an island for a 21-day quarantine to ensure they are not infected with Ebola, according to dpa. The 108 soldiers and 30 police officers were not allowed to see their families, who watched their arrival on a television screen at a nearby waiting area. The troops were transported by bus and then boat to a naval facility on Caballo Island, south-west of Manila, where they will stay for three weeks. They tested negative for the virus before their departure in Liberia, where 6,525 people have been infected by the virus, killing 2,697 of them, according to data from the World Health Organization. More than 13,000 people have been infected in eight affected countries since the start of the outbreak last year, with 4,808 deaths reported, mostly in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, it said. --SPA 14:47 LOCAL TIME 11:47 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
