New York, Dhu-AlHijjah 30, 1435, Oct 24, 2014, SPA -- A doctor who recently returned from volunteering in West Africa was being treated in a New York City hospital early Friday after he tested positive for the Ebola virus in the first confirmed case in the city, officials said. According to dpa, the Malian government meanwhile confirmed that a 2-year-old girl had also tested positive for the disease after arriving from neighbouring Guinea, in the country's first recorded case. The doctor in New York, identified by local media as Craig Spencer, 33, was taken to an isolation ward at Bellevue Hospital Center for treatment after he suffering a fever and exhibiting gastrointestinal symptoms characteristic of Ebola. "There's no reason for New Yorkers to be alarmed," New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told a news conference late Thursday night, saying all necessary precautions had been taken. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that the city had acted quickly. "We are as ready as one could be for this circumstance," Cuomo said. --SPA 11:37 LOCAL TIME 08:37 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
