Washington, Dhu-AlHijjah 8, 1435, Oct 2, 2014, SPA -- International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde said Thursday that six years after the recession, the world is still experiencing a disappointing economic recovery and will only be able to regain momentum through improved government policies. Lagarde said in a speech at Georgetown University in Washington that the world has experienced a sub-par recovery that is “brittle, uneven, and beset by risks.” Lagarde said that the risks include possible escalation of the strife in the Middle East and Ukraine and dangers from the Ebola outbreak in Africa. According to Lagarde, policymakers will need to pursue reforms to break out of a prolonged period of mediocre growth. She called for reforms of labor markets and increased spending on infrastructure. --SPA 23:28 LOCAL TIME 20:28 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
