Japanese, Thai Leaders Agree to Promote Defence Ties

Tokyo, Rabi'II 20, 1436, February 09, 2015, SPA -- Visiting Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha and his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, agreed Monday to enhance their countries' security and defence cooperation, dpa reported. Abe and Prayuth welcomed the Japanese military's participation in the Cobra Gold military exercise, an annual drill that started Monday in Thailand and brings together 13,000 soldiers from their two countries, the United States and 21 other nations. On the economic front, Abe and Prayuth affirmed Japan's cooperation in infrastructure development in Thailand, saying in a statement the development of railway transport in the South-East Asian country "hasan immense significance for further development of the Thai economy and the enhancement of connectivity within the region.
