Ayman Al-Sayari was recently appointed governor of the Saudi Central Bank with the rank of minister, following a royal decree. He expressed his gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the generous trust granted to him, and said he wished to serve the country in a way that contributed to the advancement of Vision 2030 and enhanced the Kingdom’s position in the global economy. Al-Sayari joined the central bank in 1999 and was made deputy governor in 2019. During his tenure he has served as head of investment and research, and in his role as acting head of the Debt Management Office at the Ministry of Finance played a key role in formulating the Kingdom’s sovereign debt strategy. He also sits on the board of the Saudi Fund for Development, which grants loans for investment projects in developing countries, the Public Pension Agency and the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming and Drones. Al-Sayari began his professional career as a financial analyst for the Saudi Industrial Development Fund. In 2003, he began a three-year secondment from the central bank to the financial markets department at International Finance Corp., which is part of the World Bank Group. Al-Sayari gained a master’s degree in finance from George Washington University in the U.S. and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran. He also completed a general management program at Harvard Business School and is a chartered financial analyst.
