Riyadh, February 09, 2023, SPA -- On behalf of Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defence, the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information Board of Directors Chairman, in the presence of Eng. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Swyan, Governor of the Digital Government Authority; Dr Eng. Mohammed Yahya Al- Sayel, the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information President, inaugurated the National Geospatial Centre, one of GASGI initiatives, at 2023 LEAP Event within Saudi Digital Pavilion. The Centre is a national geo-reference for geospatial data governance, setting standards and controls for the integrated use of the information eco-system, organizing the mechanism for data collection, sharing, exchanging, saving, updating, maintenance and dissemination through the Platform by the principles of easy, safe, and subject to updating and growth, particularly the Geospatial information is supportive and enabling to realize Saudi Vision 2030 objectives and is an essential component of making smart decisions based on information. The Centre targets public and private sectors, academia and individuals. It contributes to providing the entire Kingdom with updated information, enhancing national security by supporting the economy and sustainable development. Geospatial information is one of the essential factors to attract investments, with studies showing that the geospatial data economic impact on the Kingdom’s GDP is between SR 20 to 40 billion, distributed among safety, public health, infrastructure, energy, education, trade, and risk and disaster management sectors.
