Seoul, Sep 16, 2020, SPA -- South Korea needs to consider simultaneously holding two nationwide elections set to be held three months apart in 2022 to save national resources, Yonhap cited the parliamentary speaker as saying today, on Wednesday. The country is scheduled to host two high-profile national elections in the first half of 2022 -- the presidential election in March and local elections in June. "There's a need to seriously review whether to hold the 2022 presidential and regional elections simultaneously," National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seug said in an online press conference marking his 100th day in office. "The two elections will take place three months apart in the first half of 2022. It is predicted to consume quite a lot of national resources," he said. "I hope a conclusion could be reached on this issue next year." --SPA 21:12 LOCAL TIME 18:12 GMT 0023 www.spa.gov.sa/w1412123
