Riyadh, July 19, 2020, SPA -- The Chairman of Saudi Chambers Council and the Board of Directors of Riyadh Chamber Ajlan bin Abdulaziz Al-Ajlan, stated that the Kingdom’s nomination of the Advisor at the Royal Court, Muhammad bin Mazyad Al-Tuwaijri to assume the post of Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) comes in the interest of developing the organization’s works and advancing them to new horizons to achieve its strategic goals and solve challenges and obstacles facing it, which will positively affect the growth of the global economy. He said in a statement to "SPA" that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia deserves to assume this important position because of its great efforts in supporting the global economy, especially in light of its current presidency of the G20 summit. Al-Ajlan indicated that the nomination reflects the strength and durability of the Saudi economy, which enabled it to overcome the economic crises being experienced by the world, including the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to the advanced ranks it has recently achieved among the countries of the world. The Kingdom advanced during the current year from 26th to 24th rank in the Global Competitiveness Report among 63 most competitive countries, he noted.
