Education Minister: COVID19 Pandemic Builds New Directions towards Distance Learning

Riyadh, June 10, 2020, SPA -- Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh, Minister of Education, virtually took part today in the extraordinary meeting of the General Conference of Ministers of Education in the Member States of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS). During the meeting, Al-Sheikh highlighted the Kingdom's successful experience of the distance learning during the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. At the outset of his speech, the Minister of Education conveyed greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH the Crown Prince to the participants, affirming that this meeting is important to push the education march and sustain development and stability in the GCC societies. He added that the Saudi Ministry of Education, as other governmental entities, dealt with this pandemic upon directives of the wise leadership, stressing that the COVID-19 pandemic makes the states around the world to rearrange priorities, build new directions in accordance with various visions and accelerate to find alternative solutions. Al Al-Sheikh highlighted the Education Ministry's experience in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, including live educational TV broadcasting via iEN Channels, links of YouTube channel, iEN Enrichment Portal, Future Gate, and Unified Education System in addition to the efforts made by the universities in providing virtual classes. The minister also highlighted the ministry's efforts in other fields, including preparing the housing for health isolation, harnessing human cadres for volunteering in the health field, means of transport for moving male and female citizens returning from abroad to the hospitality facilities, spreading awareness about this pandemic and providing many training programs. --SPA 20:33 LOCAL TIME 17:33 GMT 0019 www.spa.gov.sa/w1347834
