OIC Welcomes International Vote on Decision to Renew Mandate of UNRWA for Next Three Years

Jeddah, Nov. 16, 2019, SPA -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the vote in favor of a number of draft resolutions on Palestine in the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly, in particular the resolution on the renewal of the mandate of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) for the next three years, which was adopted by 170 countries. The organization recognized that position as an international commitment and consensus to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people and the right of refugees to return to their homeland under Resolution 194. The OIC Secretary General Dr. Yusuf bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen commended the positions of the countries that voted in favor of the resolution, while calling on all states to translate this political support with financial contributions to enable UNRWA to continue providing basic services to Palestine refugees until their issue is resolved final solutions in accordance with UN resolutions. --SPA 14:26 LOCAL TIME 11:26 GMT 0004 www.spa.gov.sa/w1211148
