7.2 magnitude earthquake near Fiji

Sydney, Rabi'II 06, 1438, January 04, 2017, SPA -- A powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck south of Fiji in the Pacific Ocean on Wednesday morning, according to dpa. The quake's epicentre was 225 kilometres southwest in Nadi on the main island of the tiny Pacific state, according to United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was just 15 kilometres deep and struck just before 11 am on Wednesday (2200 GMT on Tuesday).  The Pacific Tsunami Centre has issued a tsunami alert, saying hazardous waves reaching 0.3 to one meters above the tide level are possible for Fiji coasts within 300 kilometres of the epicentre. --SPA 02:36 LOCAL TIME 23:36 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w305743
