United Nations, Shawwal 7, 1437, Jul 12, 2016, SPA -- Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon stressed that the message of the recent report of the Quartet regarding the peace process, in the Middle East, cannot be refuted, to the effect that "with negative trends are growing more frequent, the prospects for a two-state solution grows more distant." This came in a speech today before the UN Security Council open meeting on the situation, in the Middle East, including the Palestinian cause. The Secretary General said that: "The ten recommendations contained in the report provide a practical approach to end the political deadlock and resume the move to a larger in the West Bank of the Palestinian Authority and to chart a course for negotiations to resolve all final status issues." The Secretary-General pointed to the continuation of the Israeli settlement project even days on the invitation of the Quartet on Israel to stop settlement construction and expansion, the latter announced plans to promote the construction of 560 housing units in the West Bank and 240 units in the occupied East Jerusalem. "This blatant disregard of international law, you have to ask: How can the systematic expansion of settlements and the acquisition of land to an Israeli exclusive use and denial of Palestinian development to be a response that addresses violence? These policies will not lead to make the two-state solution closer to reality. Like these policies do not make Israelis more secure, the UN Chief said. The Secretary-General stressed that the world can play better than that, stressing the recommendations contained in the report of the Quartet, which is still firm in its commitment to support the goal of a peaceful future for Palestinians and Israelis, calling on the Security Council and the Quartet to support its efforts. -- SPA 21:36 LOCAL TIME 18:36 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
