Jeddah, Dhu-AlQa'dah 20, 1437, August 23, 2016, SPA -- As many as 1461 persons in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have been apprehended over the last six months accused of either trafficking or receiving or peddling drugs and psychotropic substances, a security spokesman of the Ministry of Interior said in a statement today. He said this is compared with the 953 figure in the preceding four months of the current lunar year 1437 for the same offense. He explained that the recent arrests included 512 Saudis and 949 from 38 nationalities. In some cases, security men faced armed resistance, leading to the injury of 14 of them and the killing of three drug promoters and injury of nine. Accordingly, different items were confiscated including 24685282 Amphetamine bills, 19.100 kg of Hashish, 14.085508 kg of raw Heroin, 236 grams of ready-for-selling heroin, 8.221.308 kg of anesthetic opium, 2.725 kg and 203 mg of Shabo, 61480 bills subject to medical use only, 15 automatic guns, 99 pistols, 15 rifles, one grenade, 5245 diversified ammunition and 30,159,803 Saudi Riyals in cash.
