Los Angeles, Jumada II 21, 1437, March 30, 2016, SPA -- Alaska's volcano authority Tuesday lowered its alert level for the erupting Pavlof volcano from red to orange as the emissions slowed, the Alaska Volcano Observatory said, according to dpa. The volcano had triggered an aviation warning Monday as it spewed a massive cloud of ash to elevations of more than 11 kilometers. Those "energetic" emissions have now decreased significantly, the AVO said, with intermittent, low-level expulsions of material at an altitude below 5 kilometers. Seismic activity remained elevated. No casualties or property damage were reported from the eruption of the snow-covered volcano on the remote Alaska Peninsula, 953 kilometers south-west of Anchorage. The nearest community, Cold Bay, is 60 kilometers south-west of the volcano. With more than 40 past eruptions, Pavlof is one of the most active volcanos of the Aleutian arc.
