Kuala Lumpur, Sha'ban 21, 1437, May 28, 2016, SPA -- Malaysia admitted 68 Syrians on Saturday, the biggest group of refugees to arrive in the South-East Asian state from the war-torn country so far, dpa cited senior officials as saying. The group consisted of 18 families, 31 of whom are children as young as 7 months old, according to Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul Karim. The refugees arrived in Kuala Lumpur aboard a chartered flight, Rohani added. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said they can stay in Malaysia until such time the situation in Syria stabilizes. The adults will be issued work permits while the children will be given student visas so they can continue their studies, he added. The first batch of Syrian refugees, consisting of 11 adults, arrived in Malaysia in December, according Ahmad Zahid. Malaysia is in the process of bringing in another 200 Syrians next month, he added. --SPA 13:44 LOCAL TIME 10:44 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
