Yangon, Dhu-AlQa'dah 10, 1437, Aug 13, 2016, SPA -- At least eight people have died and more than 430,000 have been relocated due to the flooding across nine regions in northern and central Myanmar, the Ministry of Information said Saturday. Incessant downpours since last month have brought floods to nine regions along the three main rivers that flow from north higher to south lower in Myanmar, dpa reported. Water levels in some regions have receded and some temporary shelters have shut down, but the number of flood victims is still on the rise as the floods shifted to the lower parts in the country's south. The worst-hit area of Myanmar has been the Ayeyawaddy region, where more than 210,000 people have been displaced by the flood so far, according to the ministry's announcement. Floods are common in Myanmar during the monsoon season. Last year's flooding killed as many as 100 people and affected more than a million, the government said. --SPA 14:10 LOCAL TIME 11:10 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
