Washington, Shawwal 01 1437, July 06, 2016, SPA -- The US imposed sanctions for the first time on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for human rights abuses. The Treasury Department on Wednesday added to its sanctions list more individuals and entities that are responsible for human rights violations in the country. Kim is among 10 top officials included on the list that also includes officials in charge of political prisoner and labour camps and those responsible for hunting down defectors worldwide. Treasury official Tom Malinowski, who oversees human rights and labor issues, said many of the people on the list had not been previously known. "This won't bring any sort of dramatic change, but lifting anonymity of these functionaries will make them think twice when they consider and act of cruelty or oppressive," Malinowski said. --SPA 19:57 LOCAL TIME 16:57 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
