Death toll rises to 22 in Thailand's flood-ravaged south

Bangkok, Rabi'I 10, 1438, Dec 9, 2016, SPA -- The death toll in Thailand's flood-ravaged south has risen to 22, with more than 750,000 people affected, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department said Friday. According to dpa, floods now cover 14 provinces in the country's southern region, according to the latest disaster report, up from an earlier report of 10 provinces inundated and 14 deaths. All 22 victims drowned in flood waters, a department official confirmed to dpa. Twelve of the provinces - Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi, Trang, Phattalung, Songkhla, Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Ranong and Prachuap Khiri Khan - were severely affected. --SPA 10:39 LOCAL TIME 07:39 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w286675
