New York, Dhu-AlQa'dah 13, 1437, August 16, 2016, SPA -- Of 3,400 at-risk pregnant women in New York City, 49 have tested positive for the Zika virus since April and one baby has been born with microcephaly, a condition linked to the virus that causes an abnormally small head, city officials said Tuesday, according to dpa. The officials noted that the mosquito responsible for spreading the disease has not been identified in New York, and the women who tested positive for Zika were exposed while traveling in affected regions or through sexual contact. The testing was part of New York's Zika action plan, with an investment of 21 million dollars over three years to combat the disease. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called on the US Congress to approve a 1.9-billion-dollar emergency fund to fight Zika, noting that nearly one fourth of all Zika cases in the continental US have been identified in New York. "As a global city, we must continue to act aggressively with the full support of our federal government, and we hope the other cities will adhere to this model," de Blasio said. --SPA 22:19 LOCAL TIME 19:19 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
