New York, Ramadan 23, 1437, June 28, 2016, SPA -- The cost of settling lawsuits filed against Volkswagen over its diesel emissions scandal has increased to more than 15 billion dollars, a news report said Monday, according to dpa. The amount is 5 billion dollars higher than the amount cited in news reports Thursday. Both last week's story and Monday's story quoted sources familiar with the negotiations. A settlement in the case is due to be filed Tuesday in a San Francisco court. Under the 15-billion-dollar settlement, hundreds of thousands of US owners of VW diesel cars would get enough money to cover both the value of their vehicles before the scandal became public and compensation payments of as much as 10,000 dollars, two people familiar with the negotiations told Bloomberg News. Last week reports said Volkswagen would pay US owners of diesel cars affected by the scandal up to 7,000 dollars each as part of a 10-billion-dollar settlement deal. The latest figure far exceeds any previous US civil settlement with an automaker, Bloomberg said. --SPA 03:14 LOCAL TIME 00:14 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
