Madrid, Rajab 20, 1437, Apr 27, 2016, SPA -- Diego Simeone has been given a three-match touchline ban by the Spanish football federation, his club Atletico Madrid said Wednesday, for the throwing of a ball on to the field while Malaga were attacking during Saturday's 1-0 home win for Atletico, dpa reported today. Simeone has also been fined 3,005 euros (3,391) dollars for the offence, which caused play to be stopped and infuriated Malaga coach Javi Gracia. Simeone has not confirmed that he that threw the ball. Atletico have refused to identify the thrower and Simeone has been punished due to his role as head coach. Atletico president Enrique Cerezo said that his club will likely appeal the ban. "I imagine that we will appeal though first of all the club's lawyers will have to examine the ban in detail. But I imagine that we will appeal." Without a successful appeal, Simeone will not be able to sit on the bench in Atletico's last three league games, against Rayo Vallecano, Levante and Celta Vigo. Atletico are level on points with Barcelona atop La Liga though behind the Catalans on the head-to-head results system used in Spain when teams are tied on points. Later Wednesday, Simeone's hard-working Atletico team will face Bayern Munich in the first leg of the semi-finals of the Champions League. --SPA 19:57 LOCAL TIME 16:57 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
