Beni, Congo, Sha'ban 19, 1437, May 26, 2016, SPA -- At least two people were killed when tens of thousands of people took to the streets in the Democratic Republic of Congo to demand that national elections be held on time, the United Nations Joint Human Rights Office (UNJHRO) said Thursday on Twitter, according to dpa. At least four others were injured and 59 demonstrators were arrested as they clashed with police in different locations around the country, according to the UNJHRO. Opposition parties took to the streets to demand that elections be held in November, as scheduled. There has been widespread concern that President Joseph Kabila may postpone them in order to extend his 14-year rule. Police used tear gas and fired in the air to disperse thousands of protesters in the capital, Kinshasa. Similar incidents were reported in Kananga, Butembo, Goma and Beni. --SPA 22:17 LOCAL TIME 19:17 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
