New York, Jumada II 19, 1437, March 28, 2016, SPA -- Honduran ex-president Rafael Leonardo Callejas pleaded guilty Monday in a New York federal court to charges of racketeering and wire fraud in connection with FIFA corruption, according dpa. Callejas, who was president of Honduras from 1990-94 and served as president of the Honduran Football Association until August, admitted to taking bribes for awarding contracts for the media and marketing rights to FIFA World Cup qualifier matches. He faces up to 20 years in prison on each charge. He agreed to forfeit 650,000 dollars, the US Department of Justice said in a statement. The plea comes after prosecutors engaged in plea negotiations with several defendants since December, according to court papers. Callejas was among 16 defendants named in the second round of indictments by US authorities for allegedly accepting bribes in the marketing of international tournaments. --SPA 22:08 LOCAL TIME 19:08 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
