Paris, Safar 27, 1437, December 09, 2015, SPA -- French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, who is overseeing climate talks at a global summit in Paris, called Tuesday for ministers to put forward another draft agreement, dpa reported. He said ministers should have the next draft ready by 1 pm (1200 GMT) Wednesday to use the final hours before a Friday deadline to hammer out lasting points of contention. The draft will be shorter and have few options to be decided on, reflecting two days of ministerial level talks aimed at bringing the deal forward. In an agreement that will likely be built around nationally set emissions reductions plans, negotiators said there has been some consensus about having a synchronized five-year review cycle to update the plans. With plans already submitted by more than 180 countries, scientists have said global average temperature increase would only stay below 2.7 degrees centigrade in the best case. A review process would be aimed at ratcheting up the plans to ensure temperatures do not exceed 1.5 to 2 degrees by 2100. Other issues, including which countries will contribute to the climate funds upon which many countries' emissions plans rely, remain undecided. "We must work day and night now to achieve the accord that the world awaits," Fabius said. --SPA 00:28 LOCAL TIME 21:28 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
