Brussels, Muharram 13, 1437, Oct 26, 2015, SPA -- An attack on a Belgian military site earlier Monday in which a man drove his car into the barracks prompting officers to open fire on him - bore no terrorist hallmarks, the Belga news agency reported, citing state prosecutors, dpa reported. The man forced his way into the Flawinne barracks on the outskirts of Namur, 60 kilometres south-east of Brussels, at 9 am (0800 GMT) Crown Prosecutor Vincent Macq said at a press conference. Twelve shots were fired in his direction before the man drove off, abandoning his car in a nearby field, Macq said, according to Belga. The man was later arrested. He is barely known to the authorities, barring an isolated incident in 2005, the prosecutor added. Belgium has been on high alert after police uncovered a suspected terrorist plot earlier this year. -- SPA 21:41 LOCAL TIME 18:41 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
