BAMAKO, Mali, Dhu-AlHijjah 18, 1436, October 02, 2015, SPA -- The World Health Organization says more than 100 people in northern Mali have died from what is likely malaria, because insecurity has made access to medical treatment difficult, AP reported. Lucien Manga, acting head of the U.N. organization in Mali, said Friday that data shows there has been a strong seasonal surge of malaria. Manga said samples are still being analyzed to determine the exact cause of the deaths in the insecure north. The main Tuareg separatist group recently sent a statement to the WHO that a deadly fever in that area had claimed more than 100 lives since August. The group signed a peace accord with the government and allied government militias in June, though violence resurfaced in August making it difficult for health workers to access the area. --SPA 22:00 LOCAL TIME 19:00 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
