United Nations, Dhu-AlHijjah 18, 1436, October 2, 2015, SPA -- A surge of military activities in Syria has forced the United Nations to suspend planned humanitarian operations under a cease-fire agreement, a spokeswoman for the U.N. envoy for Syria said Friday, without mentioning Russia bombing targets inside Syria for a third day. Aid activities, including evacuations of wounded, had been planned in Zabadani, a town surrounded by pro-government forces near the Lebanon border, and in besieged villages in the northwestern province of Idlib in the cease-fire deal agreed with U.N. help. “The U.N. calls on all concerned parties to fulfill their responsibilities in the protection of civilians and reach the necessary understandings in order to implement this agreement as soon as possible,” the office of U.N. envoy Staffan de Mistura said in a statement. --SPA 21:22 LOCAL TIME 18:22 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
