London, Dhu-AlHijjah 07, 1436, September 21, 2015, SPA -- British Chancellor George Osborne on Monday promised a guarantee of 2 billion pounds (3.1 billion dollars) for the construction of the country's first nuclear plant for 20 years, Hinkley Point C, according to dpa. The initial 2 billion pounds will "pave the way for a final investment decision by energy company EDF," supported by two Chinese state-run nuclear corporations, the government said of the project, which is expected to cost some 24.5 billion pounds. "It is another move forward for the golden relationship between Britain and China - the world's oldest civil nuclear power and the world's fastest growing civil nuclear power," Osborne said after talks in Beijing. Energy Secretary Amber Rudd said the guarantee was "an important step forward for the first new nuclear power station in a generation and the future of our home-grown energy supplies." --SPA 16:14 LOCAL TIME 13:14 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
