Oviedo, Spain, Dhu-AlQa'dah 22, 1436, September 06, 2015, SPA -- Defending champions Spain cruised to the top of European qualifying Group C Saturday with a straight forward 2-0 defeat of previous leaders Slovakia in the northern city of Oviedo. Vicente del Bosque's team made an energetic start and left-back Jordi Alba gave them the lead after just five minutes by heading in a clever centre from David Silva. Iniesta made it 2-0 on the half hour from the penalty spot, after Diego Costa had been pulled down by Slovakia keeper Matus Kozacik. The visitors bitterly protested the penalty, claiming that Costa had taken a dive. Spain are now level on 18 points with Slovakia but ahead on goal difference. Ukraine - who beat Belarus 3-1 earlier Saturday - are third on 15 points. --SPA 02:17 LOCAL TIME 23:17 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
