Baghdad, Dhu-AlQa'dah 01, 1436, August 16, 2015, SPA -- Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Sunday slashed his cabinet from 33 members to 22, days after parliament approved a slate of reforms he proposed in the wake of protests over corruption and poor public services, dpa reported. Al-Abadi ordered three positions of deputy prime minister to be abolished in line with his reform package and decided to amalgamate a number of ministries, a statement from his office said. In addition, the human rights ministry and the women affairs ministry are to be downgraded from cabinet status. Large crowds had taken to the streets of Baghdad and other cities in recent weeks to denounce both corruption and shortcomings in public services, such as frequent electricity shortages. --SPA 23:54 LOCAL TIME 20:54 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
