Port-au-Prince, Shawwal 25, 1436, August 10, 2015, SPA -- No major incidents were reported Sunday as Haitians voted in a legislative election that has been repeatedly delayed since 2011, dpa reported. Voters chose two-thirds of the Senate's 30 seats and all 119 seats in the Chamber of Deputies with 9,000 Haitian police and 2,500 soldiers from the United Nations peacekeeping mission deployed to provide security. Elena Valenciano, head of the European Union observer team, said that the conduct of the election Sunday was nearly normal. At least five polling stations in Port-au-Prince had to be closed due to minor problems, broadcaster Radio Metropole reported. The UN hailed the election as a step forward for Haitian democracy and stability. A presidential election is scheduled for October 25. --SPA 03:44 LOCAL TIME 00:44 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
