United Nations, Shawwal 17, 1435, Aug 13, 2014, SPA -- The estimated death toll in the Ukraine conflict nearly doubled to at least 2,086 by August 10 from 1,129 on July 26, the U.N. human-rights agency said Wednesday. "This corresponds to a clear escalating trend," Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) spokeswoman Cecile Pouilly told reporters in Geneva. On average, more than 60 people a day have been killed or wounded since fighting started in mid-April in eastern Ukraine, rising to at least 70 people a day in the first week of August, Pouilly said. --SPA 18:47 LOCAL TIME 15:47 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
