Audit of Afghan Presidential Election to Begin Tuesday

Kabul, Ramadan 17, 1435, July 14, 2014, SPA -- The Afghan election commission said Monday it will begin the audit of all ballots cast in the presidential election, dpa reported. The process was agreed to by both candidates and US Secretary of State John Kerry on the weekend after the loser, Abdullah Abdullah, rejected the initial results of the election. "The ballot auditing for Kabul province will start tomorrow morning," said Sharifa Zormati, a member of the election commission. She said that the votes from nearby provinces would be audited soon after arriving in Kabul. "The NATO air force will transfer the ballots from other provinces," she said. But another official doubted the audit would begin on time.
