Washington, Ramadan 27, 1435, July 24, 2014, SPA -- U.S. President Barack Obama signed an emergency declaration Wednesday for Washington state, as wildfires have burned there for the past two weeks. The declaration authorizes the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security to coordinate disaster relief and help state and local agencies with equipment and resources. Wetter, cooler weather has helped firefighters make progress in their efforts to get the largest wildfire in the history of the state under control. The Carlton Complex of fires, which has scorched nearly 1,036 square kilometers in the north-central part of the state and destroyed 150 homes, was 16 percent contained as of Tuesday, fire spokesman Jessica Payne said. Speaking at a fundraiser Tuesday in Seattle, Obama said that the wildfire, along with other western blazes, can be attributed to climate change. --SPA 12:24 LOCAL TIME 09:24 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
