New Delhi, Shawwal 3, 1435, Jul 30, 2014, SPA -- At least 150 people were feared trapped by a landslide in western India on Wednesday amid heavy monsoon rains, officials said, according to dpa. Television footage showed mud had buried parts of a village in Maharashtra state's Pune district. "The information we have is that 45 to 50 houses are buried in the debris. Between 150 to 170 people are feared trapped, this is an initial estimate," said Sacchidananda Gawde, an official of the National Disaster Response Force. Local officials and villagers were attempting to dig through the mud and debris. National rescue teams en route to the site but hampered by poor roads and incessant rains, Gawde said. India's northern states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have seen large monsoon-triggered landslides that have blocked national highways. Last year, more than 5,700 people were buried after floods in Uttarakhand. --SPA 13:30 LOCAL TIME 10:30 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
