Washington, Ramadan 12, 1435, Jul 9, 2014, SPA -- The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed Wednesday that a tornado destroyed the homes in New York state where four people were killed overnight. NWS meteorologist Barbara Watson said the violent winds Tuesday were at least 160 kilometers per hour (kph) and reached undetermined higher speeds to cause the damage her team is seeing in the town of Smithfield, between Syracuse and Utica. Watson said one two-story home is gone, with the structure blown away, and leaving only the foundation. Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley said the home was blown more than 100 meters before it landed on an unoccupied house. His office said at least four homes were completely destroyed, and several others were damaged. Severe thunderstorms with strong winds swept through several eastern U.S. states, Tuesday, killing five people. A child in Maryland was killed by a falling tree. --SPA 20:48 LOCAL TIME 17:48 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
