Washington, Sha'ban 15, 1435, Jun 13, 2014, SPA -- The United States on Thursday urged China and Japan to respect the safety of aircrafts in-flight, following a close encounter between military jets over the East China Sea. "We urge all states to ensure that they respect the safety of aircraft in-flight. These reports reinforce the need for China and its neighboring countries to develop crisis management procedures that can avoid miscalculations," State Department spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki told reporters. "Any attempt to interfere with freedom of overflight in international airspace raises regional tensions and increases the risk of miscalculation, confrontation, and unintended incidents," Psaki said during the daily press briefing. --SPA 15:13 LOCAL TIME 12:13 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
