Beijing, Dhu Al-Qa'dah 7, 1435, Sep 2, 2014, SPA -- Torrential rain, flooding and landslides left at least 11 people dead and 27 missing in China's south-western region of Chongqing, dpa cited reports as saying on Tuesday. The rain hit the mountainous Yunyang, Wuxi, Fengjie and Wushan counties of Chongqing on Sunday, leaving water up to 50 centimetres deep in some streets in Wuxi county town from Monday, the official Xinhua news agency reported. By midday Tuesday, local authorities had reported 11 people dead, 27 missing and 39,000 evacuated, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said. The rain, floods and landslides had affected some 900,000 people across Chongqing by Tuesday, causing estimated direct economic losses of 710 million yuan (115 million dollars), the ministry said. Among the 27 missing people were 11 coal miners who were engulfed by a landslide early Monday. More rain was forecast for later Tuesday in Chongqing and the neighbouring province of Sichuan. --SPA 13:30 LOCAL TIME 10:30 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
