Powerful quake rocks southern Mexico and Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY, Ramadan 10, 1435, July 07, 2014, SPA -- A strong earthquake rocked Guatemala and southern Mexico on Monday, causing cracks in buildings, triggering landslides and trapping at least one person under a fallen wall, authorities said, Reuters reported. The magnitude 7.1 quake rattled San Marcos near Guatemala's border with Mexico, trapping one person under a wall. Cracks opened up in buildings in the town, and there were also landslides in the area, authorities said. The quake was centered 22 miles (35 km) west-southwest of the city of Tapachula in the Mexican state of Chiapas at a depth of about 47 miles (75 km) the U.S. Geological Survey said.
