Kathmandu, Shawwal 07, 1435, August 03, 2014, SPA -- India's prime minister arrived in Kathmandu Sunday on the first such visit to Nepal in 17 years, and was expected to oversee development assistance agreements, according to dpa. Security was tightened and traffic diverted on Sunday to make way for Narendra Modi's motorcade. The government announced schools would be closed Sunday and Monday. "I look forward to working with the leadership of Nepal to forge a new relationship for the new century between our two rapidly transforming countries," Modi said in a statement issued by his office. Agreements on electrical generation were expected to be signed, to support hydropower development in Nepal. Currently, the country faces up to 12 hours of power outages daily. --SPA 11:00 LOCAL TIME 08:00 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
