United Nations, Dhu-AlQa'dah 8, 1435, Sep 3, 2014, SPA -- The cost of getting aid to West African countries hit with the Ebola virus will be at least $600 million, a U.N. official said on Wednesday U.N. Coordinator for Ebola Disease Dr. David Nabarro announced the amount after the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 40 percent of the Ebola cases occurred in the last 21 days. According to WHO, the average fatality rate in the region is 51 percent, ranging from 41 percent in Sierra Leone to Guinea’s 66 percent. The high fatality rate indicates poor health measures in the region and the need for international aid and supplies. WHO Director-General Maragaret Chan told reporters that the numbers do not include the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is separate from the one in West Africa. --SPA 20:24 LOCAL TIME 17:24 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
