Washington, Sha'ban 6, 1435, Jun 4, 2014, SPA -- The U.S. State Department says it will appoint a new ambassador to Somalia for the first time in more than 20 years. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman announced the new position Tuesday but did not say who would fill it. The third-ranking U.S. diplomat also said the United States has no immediate plans to open an embassy in Mogadishu. About a dozen U.S. diplomats who work on Somali issues currently are posted in neighboring Kenya and travel periodically to the Somali capital. --SPA 11:21 LOCAL TIME 08:21 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
