Luxembourg, Ramadan 13, 1435, Jul 10, 2014, SPA -- The population of the European Union has grown to 507.4 million people, data released on Thursday showed, with both demographic factors and migration contributing to the increase. The number, recorded on January 1, was up from 505.7 million people a year earlier. The population in the 28-country bloc has now increased by about 100 million people since 1960, according to the EU statistics agency Eurostat, dpa reported. The highest birth rates were found last year in Ireland, France, Britain, Sweden and Luxembourg, while the lowest were recorded in Portugal, Germany, Greece, Italy and Romania.
