MANILA, Ramadan 13, 1435, July 10, 2014, SPA -- A Philippine military investigation has concluded that six elite army soldiers were killed last month by an artillery round mistakenly fired by the marines and not Muslim militants as reported earlier, AP reported. Military spokesman Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said Thursday that Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Emmanuel Bautista was saddened by the finding and would decide whether charges should be filed against those behind the friendly fire, which also wounded 13 other soldiers in southern Sulu province's hinterlands. The mistake occurred during a June 19 clash that was believed to have killed about 10 Abu Sayyaf militants near Patikul town. Zagala says that the marines fired 105 mm howitzer rounds to back up troops battling the militants but one struck an army detachment. --SPA 14:50 LOCAL TIME 11:50 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
