Kabul, Sha'ban 10, 1435, June 08, 2014, SPA -- At least 79 bodies were found in northern Afghanistan, which has been hit by torrential rains and flash floods, and many more people were still missing, dpa quoted an official as saying Sunday. More than a thousand homes in the district of Guzargah-e-Nur were swept away in the flooding that began late Friday, said Javid Basharat, the police spokesman for Baghlan province. "More than 11 villages in the district were destroyed. Villagers are still trying to find their dear ones. Our main focus is to provide aid for survivors," he said. Basharat warned that the number of casualties may rise. "All the roads to the district are closed to provide aid immediately," he said. "We have given shelter to survivors and army choppers are helping to provide basic aid to them." President Hamid Karzai on Saturday ordered the disaster management committee and other organizations to take immediate action to help the affected families. -- SPA 17:04 LOCAL TIME 14:04 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
